I realize that this sounds like a very simple question, but I would like to hear some answers from the forum.

What, in reality, is Real Truth?

Thanks!

I understand where youre

I understand where youre coming from, being somewhat of a Christian -or venturing away from Christianity. I was there too... But as for your question:

Im taking the context of your question that you are asking for a sort of absolute truth to live by or follow. Im sorry, but I dont believe we really have that answer in stone. I personally believe that there is such an absolute, but from our carnal perspective, we cannot find, or havent found as of yet what ultimate truth is to the Universe - regarding Nature's God, or perhaps no God. For all i know, i could totally be talking out of my ars compared to a higher form of reasoning/intelligence...

There is in reality, simple truths such as, "the cup is on the table." we can see that it is so. if you like to get into metaphysics and empiricism, you can make it a lot more vague, but non the less, it's quite universal that the cup is still on the friggin table. If youre your referring to more complex things like, what is truth in right and wrong, I doubt there is a solid answer. you would have to consider the country, society, religion, family environment, school, friends, music, etc and many other aspects to see how all of these have played into your ideas of right and wrong, and how they almost control you [and all of us]. according to real life experiences, things are NOT black and white like a lot of religious individuals believe or want to believe. it is not that simple. It's grey.

We dont know what the "ultimate truth" is or our "ultimate purpose." We dont really know what happens after we die, or if we're judged by some kind of God, but i do know that we all have [to some extent] power over our own lives to make then what we want. and I suggest we all live our lives in intellectual honest above all.

Im not saying there isnt truth -if i did, i would be assuming what i have just said to be full of truth :P

I side with John Armstong on purpose to our existence: 1) Live with integrity 2) Respect the rights of others, and 3) Leave the world a little [or a lot] better then the way you found it.

Let me know if I answered your question at all

Another absolute...

The problem with any form of absolute, is the problem of interpretation. You can have simple facts which can't be disputed (I write the number 6 onto a piece of paper and leave the paper on a table. A few simple facts can be drawn from this, such as: The paper is on the table and the paper has the number six written on it), however, when you start looking into what the number 6 means, then things get fuzzy. The number 6 could mean anything and all the different interpretations could be considered truthful, as long as they acknowledge that the number written on the piece of paper is 6.

Now, if I were to come back and write down "Score: " next to the number six, we suddenly are produced with a fact that the number 6 is a score. However, a score relating to what? A test? A game? Is it out of ten or a percentage? You still get a variety of different interpretations even if you narrow things down a bit.

All in all, there is no absolute truth. If you want to believe there is an absolute truth, then you have to consider all the different religions in the world, all with different ideas as to what they they is the absolute truth. In a way, it is silly to get bogged down in seeking 'absolute truth'.

If you say that without absolute truths, we would have no purpose, etc, then I say this. If without a purpose, give yourself one. A lot more meaning can come out of your life when you give yourself a purpose that is meaningful to you, and not just some 'packaged deal' that religions offer.

Thank you, freethinkers, for

Thank you, freethinkers, for some of your responses! Let me also attempt to answer this intriquing question.  First of all, my answer is based on a belief that there is, in reality, one true Creator of the Universe. I do not believe that any person on this earth understands all aspects of this Creator; the Creator may be beyond all human comprehension. Let me be frank. Personally, I do not believe that we created ourselves.  There may be other possibilities, of course, but for the sake of argument I do not plan to get into them. Some may wish to use ancient written texts (Bible, Koran, and others) to try to answer this, but I will not do that, either.  The true Creator (God) may transcend all that has been written in any book!

Mankind will probably argue or debate about what constitutes TRUTH until the end of time. Do I really care about winning arguements/opinions among the various religious factions? No. In this earthly sojourn, will I ever know or understand it all? No. The Creator may also have been given many "erroneous titles" by man. Let me give you one prime example. Do I believe that the Creator is a "theology professor" where we have to get a certain number of correct answers to obtain the Creator's approval?"  The future, indeed, may be an open book, but, I don't think so!

Any of the so called, "spiritual authorities" on this planet can say what they want, but I will never believe that any of them knows everything. This is my response. In my mind, this will always be true, no matter what the human perspective may be....

The only real truth is the Creator's truth!

Thank you John, for your website! May God's gift of reason light our way!
