Good Movies? TV Shows?

Personally, the only last true intertainment on my television is the Discovery Channel, History Channel and Comedy Central's arsenal of comedians.
Does anybody have a TV SHOW or MOVIE they could recommend? Ratings dont matter.

Um, well I watch a lot of anime DVDs, I recently finished Elfin Lied, and from a friends suggestion I'm starting Gantz.
I love most of the abridged series on youtube; Berserk, Naruto, Yu Yu Hakusho. However Yugioh abridged is the granddaddy of em all. Abridged series are great wether or not you leik anime, but from your arcanine, I'd say you'd be in the leik catagory. Ever watch AMV Hell?
I'm like slaugh, I'm an anime JUNKY and have been since Captain Harlock in 1979... my bit torrent is almost constantly running as I download new episodes.
but the type of Anime I'm into appeals to a much smaller audience... (yaoi)
But I do watch South Park too (addicted to this show, I love it.)
Other shows I will DVR/TiVo...
Monk on USA
Heroes on NBC
Psych on USA
I must admit, when I'm coding websites I've got Dr. Phil on in the Background
I like all the CSI type shows. Forensics, Cold Cases, etc... I have CourtTV (TruTV) on too most of the time in the background. I tend to multi-task and don't so much watch TV as listen to it while I'm working on the computer. I work from Home. The laptop, the couch, my cats and John's massive TV are my best friends during the day. ^_^ (The joke is I'm only marrying John for his Television set... *laughs*)
The only show I watch religiously is Countdown with Keith Olberman. If God had an earthly avatar, sent to battle demons like O'Riley, it would be Keith.
Occassionally, I also catch Colebert and Stewart. They're the other two parts of the trinity.
You have to have a massive TV to get a woman like this...
Okay, this is my official list of shows on TV. (At least the ones I can remember right now.)
South Park, Futurama, The Simpsons, The Daily Show / Colbert Report, (History Channel's random shows), (Discovery Channel's random shows), Flight of the Conchords, Scooby Doo, Comedy Central Presents, any outragous televangelist programs, In Living Color (I know, its old.), and of course I always have to tune in for some Mad TV during the day.
I'll probably start watching the CSI spinoff stuff. I've only heard good things. Im not the biggest fan of anime shows, probably just because I never gave any a chance. I did watch Cowboy Bebop for a few episodes though.
And for the pokemon picture, I am just a fan of the gameboy pokemon games. They are RPG's and some of the best I have ever played. I guess that makes me a little kid again. :)
I just saw Juno tonight. It was good, if you like independent films (I do). It was like Rushmore or Napolean Dynamite: low on production values, heavy on character development. I predict that Miley Cyrus girl will make it big.
I agree, Juno is an amazing movie. I thought they might of sugur-coated teen pregnancy, yet I was proven wrong. Exellent script writing and Ellen Page was wonderful. I also just rented La vie en rose. I've only watched a little of the film, yet I already find it powerfully impacting me. Has anyone else seen either movie?
Hey Dana,
Have you ever heard of Anime North, held in Toronto, Ontario?
-Chris
Yes I have, too far for me.
I've been to Anime Expo in Anaheim, CA before and I always go to Yaoi-Con in San Francisco every year. I prefer smaller conventions, Anime Expo is the largest in North America and it brings out the crazies... Like Man-Faye (I saw this dude in the flesh and that was far too close! That picture was in 2006, he's lost weight, in 2003 in the same outfit add 50 pounds! He's scary and cons are full of guys like him this you tube video was the year I was traumatized by Man-Faye at Anime expo... SCARY!!!!!!!!!)

Oh my GOD! The picture "Fatass No Jutsu"... I KNOW the Naruto cosplayer... all too well actually. She was my psycho freaky semi-stalker. It all began in a roll playing game where we played characters that we're partners but she's one of those people unable to separate a GAME/FANTASY from REALITY... Can we say I left that game so fast heads were spinning. I mean this girl was talking STRAP ONS! O_o I may be BI but DAAaaaaaaaaaaaaMN, I was just playing a game here chicka!
she showed up at a convention I usually sell my art at in the dealer's room, wearing that naruto costume and I think I nearly passed out with shock. There's one thing about internet stalking quite another when they track you down in person and you have no where to run. Thankfully she had a partner (The one in that picture cosplaying Saskue the far right in that picture) so she was "over me" and just wanted to say "hello"...
*WHEW* Panic attack avoided.
But yeah I just freaked seeing her up on that page.

My current favorite drama is "Medium." Yes, the show about the woman who has psychic dreams. I keep a dream journal so it's right up my alley. I don't have what you would call psychic dreams, sorry to say. But the usual stuff that happens to everyone---dreaming about someone you haven't seen for awhile then seeing them in a store or someplace the next day.
That is a very good show, and based on a real lady too. I love paranormal/psychic stuff. My mother is very mildly clarvoiant. Not anything that does anyone any good, but she'll have the occasional ery vivid dream and sometimes YEARS later it happens exactly as she dreamed. Nothing she can make any predictions on but damn she gets the occasional serious moments of Deja Vu becuase of her dreams.
All the women in my family have a touch of "perceptional" senses. Nothing like you see on the TV or from Hollywood and but we all get our freak on in little ways. Me, I'm extremely empathic, I know when you are lying to me, I know when someone is troubled and I have a hard time detaching my sense of empathy for others. Even when it's just a movie. I can really "put myself in someone else's shoes" too well. I cannot watch things like documentaries on the Holocaust because I will very literally sob so hard I will make myself physically Ill. I can only talk about death a short while, just talking about making a living will will get me started, especially if it's about someone close to me. I have to really watch the tear jerking stuff.
Old Yeller... Watched that one time... one time too many.

Oh you would like Elfin Lied then, and Gantz.
I have both on fansub but haven't had time to watch any anime in AGES. I'm about 150 episodes behind on Naruto, I have all the relased episodes of Bleach too I'm grossly behind on... I finally finished Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles (loved that!). Did you see Jyu Oh Sei? It was only 11 episodes but DAMN it could have been 50! It was by the same animators that did Escaflowne and Heat Guy J, it was fabulous. Sort of Lord of the Flies meets the Matrix meets Little Shop of Horrors.

I've seen all of escaflowne. I watched like the first 8 episodes of heat guy and it was really good. I'll check out Jyu Oh Sei and the Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles sometime.
I watch bleach and naruto when it's on TV, they are both decent but they both annoy me. Some kid with ADD in an orange jumpsuit doesn't seem all that stealthy to me, Sasuke is a whiny emo and Sakura is basically useless. And with bleach, I've never seen a series introduce and develop so many god damn characters without killing any of them off.
And I love Deathnote.
I refuse to watch Dubbed anime... It's all so LAME and 9.9999 times out of 10 they change the story line in the dub process (And the Voice actors cannot act!) It's subtitled with Japanese dialog or I'm so flipping the channel.
Naruto dubs SUCKS and yes even in the original, Sakura is rather lame until you get to about episode 150 and then she starts kicking some butt. I tend to really HATE female leads in anime, they tend to all be like Sailor Airhead. With a few exceptions. Hitome in escaflowne was GREAT she didn't wait to be saved. Kagome in Inu Yasha too had a big pair of balls under her fuku.
I like strong female leads or no females at all. GetBackers was one of my all time favorite animes. Gundam Wing was also a HUGE love of mine. I drew a lot of fanart and wrote a TON of fanfiction for that series. I don't normally draw/write fanart/fanfiction. But Gundam Wing and GetBackers were exceptions:
Examples: GW
& GB

I don't tend to be artsy-fartsy over a series unless I really, REALLY like the show. I mainly Illustrate original things.

A good series that goes over how and more importantly why our views on how the universe worked changed is James Burke's Day the Universe Changed. It, like his Connections series, uses the consept of system theory of how things interact with each other to produce an idea or event.
